6 TIPS FOR FINDING MODERN FURNITURE AND DECOR ON A BUDGET (PART 2 OF 2)
Welcome back to part two of my blog post on tips for finding modern home furniture and décor on a budget. This blog post won’t be quite as long as the last one. As a refresher, in the last blog post we talked about:
1. When it comes to staying on budget for the modern home, embrace Ikea
2. When it comes to staying on budget for the modern home, peruse discounted home décor stores (Ross, Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Marshalls)
3. When it comes to staying on budget for the modern home, know which pieces to spend your money on
Part Two: (this post)
4. When it comes to staying on budget for the modern home, be flexible (don’t get focused on just one way)
5. When it comes to staying on budget for the modern home, plan for the sales
6. When it comes to staying on budget for the modern home, don’t rush it
Lets dive in..
When it comes to staying on budget for the modern home, be flexible (don’t get focused on just one way).
What do I mean by getting stuck on one way? Well, a couple of things. First, don’t get stuck on only using one furniture store, or stuck to using your budget to the T. When it comes to the budget, as long as you meet your bottom line, you can adjust the numbers when it comes to how much you spend on specific items. What I also mean is don’t get stuck on their just being one way to shop and save. Be creative! For sure, use the suggestions in this blog post, but maybe you’ll also shop local flea markets or furniture stores. Don’t pin-hole yourself into just one strategy. DIY anyone? Be flexible in looking for opportunities to save money.

When it comes to staying on budget for the modern home, plan for the sales.
Just like a lot of people plan for sales when it comes to grocery shopping, its kind of the same for furniture and décor. There are times of the year here in the US that we know things are going on sale regardless of flash sales. Holidays like Christmas, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving and Black Friday. For everyday sales, check out Refinery29.com. Sometimes they will post articles talking about major brand sales. Unfortunately, when it comes to furniture and décor, there aren’t a lot of websites or app’s that search the internet for weekly deals. Which means, if you’re looking for deals, you’re going to have to be diligent to check out store websites. Also, sometimes the sales online and instore are different so it would be good to check your local store while you’re at it. Planning your room or home décor around sales takes patience. It means you can’t just buy it when you see it, unless it already work within your budget. It may mean you don’t have a coffee table for a while, or bedside lamp. Planning around sales playing the long game but it’s worth it when you can purchase the furniture that you want within your budget.
When it comes to staying on budget for the modern home, don’t rush it.
Again, the long game. Whether you are waiting for sales, waiting for your finances to improve, or other reasons that may cause it to take more time for you to purchase your home décor, don’t rush it. You want to make sure you get the RIGHT pieces (the right style, size, functionality for your space) and unless you are on a serious time crunch, take your time. You want to make sure your room looks the way you want when you’re done. I’ve learned this by living in a fixer upper for the last three years. When we first bought our house, we fixed it up enough to move in (changed flooring, doors, paint color). But after living in our home for a while we realized that we needed to make some bigger changes, like moving the location of the kitchen and completely remodeling the bathroom. We did this, but it meant that for some of our furniture pieces they didn’t fit any longer. I needed to have a lot of patience to wait until we were done with the remodel before buying any new furniture pieces. Let’s be real, it’s still a struggle for me. I have learned though, patience pays off when it comes to this stuff.
That’s all she wrote folks! I hope this two part blog post provided some helpful tips for the next time you’re looking for modern furniture and decor on a budget.
